B was a brown bear
Woytek was his name
The Polish artillery
Thought he was tame!
He carried the shells
That they fired from their guns
And aimed at their enemies
(Fascists and Huns)
With a flash-bang
And a crash-bang
They blew them away …
At Monte Casino
He helped win the day!
Woytek ate with his gun crew
And shared their beer too.
He liked cigarettes
(But only to chew!)
Then, after V.E. Day,
And all he'd been through,
He took early retirement
And booked into a zoo.
But not just any old zoo!
It was Edinburgh Zoo!!
Where he was seen on a visit
By a young boy called Hugh!!!

Brown bears are large mammals found across parts of Europe, Asia and North America. They can vary greatly in size, with males generally being much larger than females.
Brown bears are omnivores with a varied diet that can include plants, berries, insects, fish and small animals. They have an excellent sense of smell, which helps them locate food from considerable distances.
During winter, brown bears enter a period of deep rest in sheltered dens. Mother bears can give birth to cubs while resting in their den, with the tiny cubs remaining with their mother until they are strong enough to venture outside.
